Introducing the German Shepherd Dog
The German Shepherd Dog is a willing, versatile, and noble working dog. There seems to be no task too difficult or too strenuous that would prevent them from mastering it. Their strength, agility, fluent motion, and beauty, certainly make the German Shepherd breed one that stands out from the crowd. These dogs prove their versatility daily in the types of work that they perform. Guide dogs for the blind, assisting the handicapped, sniffing out drugs or contraband, guarding businesses or homes, racing around agility courses, chasing down criminals, searching and rescuing lost or trapped individuals, or just simply being a family member are but a few of the qualified jobs held by the German Shepherd Dog.
Day to Day life with your German Shepherd will keep you active both physically and mentally. These dogs thrive on exercise and will trot along beside their owners as they partake of their daily runs or bike rides. A quiet stroll around the park is just not enough for them. Shepherds become easily bored
and that can lead to frustration. They learn easily, however, they will soon figure out a ‘better’ or faster way to perform an assigned task which can make it frustrating to have to repeat the process the way ‘you’ want it done. The training of the German Shepherd is never complete. Due to their intelligence the continuing of their education and social skills is a life long process.
They are a bit wary of a newcomer that enters their space. However, they soon warm up to them and accept them as part of their extended family once they see how ‘their people’ respond to them. The loyalty with which the German Shepherd responds to their families is life long and non-shattering. They will watch over their young charges as if their own life depended on it, often herding them around the yard or away from the road.
It is an instinct that creates an unshakable bond between German Shepherds and their families. Many police dogs have actually sacrificed their own life trying to protect their partners. Because of their loyalty German Shepherds willingly give the ultimate sacrifice without question or fear. Ask an owner of a German Shepherd how they feel about their canine companion and you may be surprised at the admiration, love and respect at which they speak of their valued friend.
